The Kano Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has conferred its Award of Excellence 2025 on Former Kano Governorship candidate Mallam Inuwa Waya, in recognition of his enduring friendship, goodwill and invaluable support to the chapel.
The award, presented under the category “Friends of the Chapel,” acknowledges Waya’s consistent contributions to the activities and growth of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, which members say have significantly enhanced the professional development and welfare of journalists covering the state.
According to the citation, Waya’s support over the years has strengthened the capacity of the chapel and fostered a productive relationship between journalists and stakeholders, creating an enabling environment for responsible journalism in Kano.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Kano Correspondents Chapel Comrade Murtala Adewale described the award as a reflection of Waya’s commitment to media development and his belief in a free, professional and vibrant press.
He noted that the honour is part of the chapel’s annual tradition of recognizing individuals and institutions that have contributed meaningfully to journalism and democratic development in Kano State.
While receiving the award Mallam Inuwa Waya, represented by Alhaji Abba Tanko expressed gratitude to the NUJ Kano Correspondents Chapel for the recognition, describing it as a motivation to continue supporting the media in the discharge of its constitutional role of informing, educating and holding leaders accountable.
The Kano Correspondents’ Chapel reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, ethical journalism and strengthening partnerships that promote good governance and societal development.
