The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has commended the recent ban on live programmes by Media Executives in the state.

“The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, wishes to commend the proactive decision made by media executives in Kano State to ban live programmes on their stations,”the union said in a statement.

This is contained in a statement signed by union’s Vice Chairman, Mustapha Gambo Muhammad, and its Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru.

“This is a commendable commitment to maintaining ethical standards and responsible journalism within our state.

“In an era where inflammatory statements and misinformation can easily escalate tensions and disrupt societal harmony, the decision to suspend live broadcasts is both timely and necessary.

“It reflects a deep understanding of the role that media plays in shaping public discourse and promotes a more responsible approach to news reporting,” the council said.

It also lauded the media executives for prioritizing the integrity of journalism and for taking a stand to protect our community from potentially harmful content.

“We encourage all media professionals to continue upholding the principles of accuracy, fairness and accountability in their reportage.

“Let us work together to foster an environment where the media serves as a platform for constructive dialogue, understanding, and unity within our society,” the statement added.
