Kano Police Reassure Public After Recalling Officers from Anti-Corruption Commission
By Mustapha Salisu
The Kano State Police Command has addressed public concerns regarding the recent withdrawal of police officers from the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).
In a statement released today by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, he clarified that the recall is for a routine staff audit. They aim to determine the exact number of officers assigned to the PCACC, their reporting structure, and the nature of their duties since their deployment in 2015.
This action follows reports received by the Command’s Complaint Response Unit alleging that some officers attached to the PCACC have overstepped their bounds. The audit aims to ensure officers are performing their originally assigned duties, such as static guard duty, and not conducting investigations or arrests.
“The step is towards ensuring a better and effective service delivery by the policemen devoid of abuse of process in the interest of the people,” the statement reads.
The Police emphasized that similar audits have been conducted in the past and officers will be returned upon completion. The Inspector-General of Police has already authorized the return of some officers who have completed the audit process.
The Kano Police distanced themselves from suggestions this is politically motivated, stating their commitment to professionalism and upholding the law.
The statement concludes by thanking the Kano residents for their continued support and cooperation.
