Dr. Abdullahi Bappa Bichi, the Secretary to the Kano State government (SSG), returned to Kano after a month-long medical trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
On December 7th, the Kano state government appointed Abdullahi Musa, the Head of Service, as the acting SSG while Dr. Baffa Bichi was away on medical leave, sparking speculation about internal discord within the 7-month-old administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf in Kano.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf addressed these speculations at a recent ceremony, clarifying, “Appointing the State Head of Service as acting SSG doesn’t mean Bichi was removed. We couldn’t leave the position vacant due to its importance.”
Yusuf dismissed rumors of conflict, stating, “Some individuals, relying on politics for livelihood, tried to create unnecessary tension. Their attempts have failed.”
The Governor assured that Bichi, currently recuperating, would resume his duties upon return. He emphasized that Bichi’s position was secure and underscored that he remains in charge.
Bappa’s return coincides with a period of uncertainty in the state ahead of an expected apex court decision regarding the Kano governorship tussle in the coming days.
Bichi, appearing refreshed, arrived at Aminu Kano International Airport, where he was warmly received by family, friends, well-wishers, and a team of aides.
However, it remains uncertain whether Bichi will resume duties immediately upon his return, as previously indicated by his superiors.
Sources close to the situation disclosed that Dr. Bichi, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria People’s Party, might take some time off before potentially heading to Abuja to await the Supreme Court judgment along with other party stalwarts.
