The Kano State Government has unveiled its 2025 budget, allocating significant funds to social welfare programs, including a N1 billion Ramadan feeding initiative and N2.5 billion for quarterly mass weddings across the state’s 44 local government areas.
The allocations were disclosed by the State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, during the presentation of the budget breakdown. The ₦719.76 billion budget, passed by the State House of Assembly on January 31, represents a 31% increase from the initial proposal of N549.16 billion submitted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Major Allocations in the 2025 Budget N91.32 billion for governance and service delivery, including the mass wedding program, aimed at fostering social welfare and promoting human rights. N955 million for manpower statistics, general household surveys, and tracking out-of-school children.
N1.049 billion for purchasing printing machines, rehabilitating the general water system, and equipping the Government Printing Press.
N267.6 million for infrastructure, Islamic calendar production, and support for Da’wah programs, including assistance for new converts to Islam.
N589 million for security research, empowerment programs, and street begging intervention.
N200 million for office furniture, maintenance of the accountant-general’s office, and Public Financial Management (PFM) software development.
Shanono highlighted that the mass wedding initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to promoting social responsibility and sustainable development, ensuring that more citizens have access to legal and supported unions.

Recurrent Expenditure: N262.67 billion
Capital Expenditure: N457.08 billion (65% increase from 2024)
The budget increase is attributed to higher revenue projections from federal allocations and internally generated revenue (IGR).
The Kano State Government maintains that its 2025 budget is designed to improve social welfare, enhance infrastructure, and implement governance reforms, ensuring a better quality of life for its citizens.
