Kano State Police Command announces breakthroughs in fight against crime

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, addressed the press today at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano. In his statement, CP Gumel highlighted the recent successes and breakthroughs achieved by the Command in its efforts to maintain law and order in the state.

CP Gumel began by emphasizing the Command’s commitment to the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, which include the adoption of community policing, intelligence-led operations, and round-the-clock visibility patrols. “The Command has been reviewing its anti-crime strategies and conducting discreet investigations into ongoing cases” he said.

The Commissioner outlined several notable cases that have been resolved by the Kano State Police Command:

“In Rano LGA, following a reported kidnapping incident in Ruwan Kanya Village, Rano LGA, the police arrested three suspects and recovered a locally made AK-47 rifle, two rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and a cutlass. The suspects confessed to their involvement in armed robberies and kidnappings in Rano, Tudun Wada, and Kibiya LGAs.

“Likewise in Tudun Wada LGA, four suspects were apprehended by the Command after a resident of Dariya Village received an anonymous phone call demanding a ransom. The suspects confessed to the crime and admitted involvement in other threats and intimidation cases. Investigations are ongoing.

“Similarly in Dala LGA, a young boy and his father were kidnapped, and a ransom was demanded. The police successfully rescued the victim and arrested four suspects, including a family member who orchestrated the kidnapping. Further investigations are underway.

“Also in Kumbotso LGA, a report was received regarding the abduction of a 14-year-old girl. The suspect was arrested in Kumbotso LGA, where he had kept the victim for two days. Investigations are ongoing.

“Relatively at Tofa LGA, in a kidnapping incident that resulted in the death of one suspect and injuries to two villagers, the Command successfully arrested three suspects. Additionally, a significant amount of illicit drugs was recovered. Investigations are ongoing.

“Also in Madobi LGA, a divorced mother was arrested for planning and orchestrating the kidnapping of her own daughter. The victim was successfully rescued in Madobi LGA, and investigations are ongoing.

“In Kano Municipal LGA, following reports of drug dealing activities, the police apprehended a suspect in possession of parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp. Further operations led to the recovery of a significant quantity of the illicit substance” the Commissioner revealed.

CP Gumel expressed his gratitude to the people of Kano State for their cooperation, support, and prayers. He assured the public that the Kano State Police Command would continue to work diligently to address emerging security challenges and maintain peace and security in the state.

The Commissioner concluded the press conference, emphasizing the Command’s dedication to its mission and urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
