The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), in collaboration with UNICEF and the FCDO Lafiya Program, has outlined clear next steps following the successful completion of the three-day Adaptation Meeting of the Redesigned Community-Based Health Workers (CBHW) Program) held at Hotel Seventeen, Kaduna State.

Sa’adatu Suleiman, Public Relations Officer, Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.

According to Sa’adatu, the meeting, which brought together key stakeholders from the health sector, aimed to adapt, align, and strengthen the CBHW program framework to address community health needs and ensure efficient service delivery across the 18 MAMII LGAs of Kano State.

As part of the workshop’s outcomes, participants agreed on a series of next steps to ensure timely implementation and integration of the redesigned CBHW program into the state’s primary health care system. The agreed actions include:

1. Submission of the completed Community-Based Health Worker (CBHW) program workplan and costing by participating teams for consolidation and review.

2. Harmonisation and cleaning of the CBHW program workplan, ensuring all inputs are aligned with state priorities and national guidelines.

3. Submission of the finalized CBHW workplan for official approval by the relevant authorities.

4. Capturing of the CBHW workplan activities into the Annual Operational Plan (AOP) for 2026, to ensure smooth budgeting and implementation within the state’s health framework.

5. Submission of the approved Kano State CBHW program workplan to the National CBHW Program, aligning the state’s roadmap with national community health strategies.

6. Sharing of all workshop documents by the CBHW Coordinator to participants and stakeholders for reference and follow-up actions.

Speaking at the close of the workshop, representatives of the KSPHCMB, UNICEF, and the FCDO Lafiya Program commended participants for their dedication and collaborative efforts in developing a robust and actionable CBHW program workplan that reflects the realities and priorities of Kano State’s primary health care system.

The Director General, KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to sustaining partnerships that drive health system strengthening, improve access to quality care, and enhance the performance of community-based health workers. He emphasized that the outcomes of the workshop would directly contribute to improving maternal, newborn, and child health indicators in the state.

The Adaptation Meeting marks a significant step toward operationalizing a standardized, data-driven, and people-centered community health workforce that supports the delivery of essential primary health care services to every household in Kano State.
