Kano Traffic Officials Drag MD To ICPC Over ‘Forged Receipts’

This followed a petition written to the commission by some staff of the agency where allegations of fraudulent activities were levelled against the KAROTA boss.

In the petition titled: “Complaint Letter Against The Managing Director Of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) For Corrupt Activities,” the staff members alleged that since assumption of office of the managing director, in 2019, he has been authorising issuance of fake receipts at all the zonal offices.

They said the alleged issuance of fake receipts was also perpetuated at the headquarters of the agency but not at the mobile court of the agency where the revenue staff of the Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) are collecting fines.

According to the petition, the MD has been carrying out the act through a man named Shehu, whom they said happens to be his brother and not an official of Kano State Government.

When contacted, the Resident Commissioner of ICPC in Kano state, Ibrahim Garba Kagara, confirmed that there is such a petition against the KAROTA boss.

He, however, said he could not make further comments on the petition nor provide details as the matter is under investigation.

However, an attempt to hear the reaction of the Managing Director proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

When contacted, he asked our reporter to send a text but has not responded to the text message sent to him.
