By Mustapha Salisu

Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared a zero tolerance on potholes across the state, according to the Managing Director of Kano State Road Maintenance Agency (KARMA), Alh. Hassan Dan Baffa.

Dan Baffa made the announcement during a press briefing with newsmen at the Agency’s Conference Room on Friday.

He disclosed that since his assumption into office with the support of the Governor, KARMA has been working round the clock to repair damaged roads abandoned by the previous administration.

The MD listed some roads repaired by the Agency so far to include: Aminu Kano Road, Lodge Road, Airport Road, Tarauni Road opposite the Kano State Government House, Kurna flyover along Katsina road and Road linking Kofar Waika to Unguwar Dabai District to Rijiyar Abba Tashi among others.

He also revealed that the Agency has assessed the situation on Kuntau Road, which has been damaged for several years, and has presented a proposal to the Governor for its reconstruction once he approves it.

Dan Baffa further disclosed that when he arrived office, it was at the beginning of the rainy season when the authorities predicted floods especially in the city of Kano due to the blockage of water channels.

He said the governor gave the Agency an urgent order to drain the main water channels in the city in the following locations: Friday mosque in the city, Abdullahi Wase road, Kwari Market, Ibrahim Taiwo Road and Civic Center.

He noted that despite the heavy rains received, there has been less flooding this season compared to previous years, which is a testament to the Agency’s efforts.

Dan Baffa revealed that he has a projection to spread the tentacles of his Agency’s projects beyond Kano Metropolis to other LGAs outside the metropolis within a period of 1 year.

He assured that KARMA is working gradually with a target to achieve Governor Yusuf’s hopes for improvement of the transport sector for the convenience of people and the development of the economy in Kano State.

Dan Baffa, however, called on citizens of Kano state to cooperate and support KARMA and the State Government in achieving the success of their projects and to inform the Agency of any corrections they see on their roads.

“Our door is open to listen to your suggestions so that we can survive the journey together,” pleaded Dan Baffa.
