The Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari, has decried the low enrollment of students into the institution.
The Deputy Rector of the polytechnic, Mallam Sa’idu Aliyu-Dankolo, made this known on Wednesday when he led the management team and members of Government Council of the institution on a courtesy visit to the Kebbi House of Assembly in Birnin Kebbi.
Aliyu-Dankolo said that the purpose of their visit to the state assembly was to inform the house of the main challenge facing the institution.
He said that poor enrollment of students is one of the major challenges the institution is facing despite the accreditation of more courses by the institution.
According to him, some of the courses accredited include Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Science Laboratory, Library and Information Science, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry that should be attractive to students.
“The low enrollment of students is posing a threat to the development of the Polytechnic.
“We, therefore, seek the support of members of the House by enrolling people from their constituencies to study in the institution towards minimizing the problem and the overall development of the Polytechnic and the education sector as well,” he said.
Responding, Speaker of the House, Alhaji Mohammed Usman-Zuru, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo, reiterated the commitment of the assembly in addressing the challenge.
He also tasked them to identify the root cause of the low enrollment in the polytechnic in order to fine-tune ways of tackling the challenge.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Polytechnic was established in 2014 by former Gov. Saidu Dakingari – led administration to provide more opportunities for the indigent of the state to have access for higher education. (NAN).
