KEDCO Engages Customers in Town Hall Meeting to Address Complaints, Improve Service Delivery

By Mustapha Salisu

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has restated its commitment to improving service delivery and strengthening customer relations during a town hall meeting held in the Kano East region.

PRIME TIME NEWS reports that the forum, held today at the Marshal Event Centre in Kano, is part of a series of engagements across KEDCO’s franchise areas aimed at giving customers a platform to present complaints, share feedback, and learn about their rights and obligations as electricity consumers.

Speaking at the event on behalf of KEDCO’s Managing Director, the company’s Chief Regulatory Officer, Nura Wada Nas, described the meeting as “robust and productive,” noting that the contributions from customers would help the company refine its services.

“We are happy with the turnout and equally happy with the contributions from all the participants. The discussions have been very robust. We got a lot of feedback that we’ll go back and work on to ensure that customers get the experience they deserve in terms of service delivery from KEDCO,” Nas said.

He explained that the town hall sessions also serve to sensitise customers about KEDCO’s complaint handling mechanism, which mandates that all complaints must be resolved within 15 days.

“If issues are not resolved within that timeframe, customers can escalate their complaints to the NERC forum office. However, our goal is to resolve every complaint at our own offices. We also conduct regular training for our customer service staff to ensure effective service delivery,” he added.

According to Nas, the major concerns raised by customers revolved around transformer failures and repairs.

He assured participants that KEDCO, under its new investors Future Energy Africa, is prioritising investment in power infrastructure and has revamped its transformer repair workshop to address these challenges promptly.

Looking ahead, he revealed that KEDCO is also exploring alternative power sources such as solar energy to supplement the unstable national grid supply.

“We want to explore alternative sources in various communities so that we can augment whatever is coming from the grid,” he said.

Nas concluded by assuring customers that KEDCO will act on all the feedback gathered from the session, pledging improved customer service and more responsive operations across its service areas.
