Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, for the renovation and commissioning of the previously vandalized Digital Industrial Park in Kano.
It will be recalled that in August last year, the government-owned facility initially scheduled for commissioning was attacked, vandalized, and looted by some unpatriotic individuals during the End Bad Governance protest.
The appreciation was conveyed by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on behalf of the Governor during the official commissioning ceremony of the park, led by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijjani.
The Deputy Governor commended the Minister for fulfilling his promise to rehabilitate the facility after his inspection visit to Kano last year.
“In less than 12 months, the Minister has kept his word, and today this important facility is being commissioned to enhance youth capacity development and contribute to the growth of our state,” he stated.
Comrade Gwarzo emphasized that the digital economy is a global trend, and the establishment of such facilities will give young people greater opportunities to connect with the world and realize their dreams.
In his remarks, Minister Dr. Bosun Tijjani recalled his earlier visit to the vandalized hub, noting that instead of being disheartened, he was motivated to ensure its restoration for the benefit of young Nigerians.
He revealed that in one of the ministry’s recently launched programs, which attracted 1.8 million applicants nationwide, Kano State alone accounted for 10% of the total applications an indication of the state’s strong engagement with digital innovation.
Dr. Tijjani also took the opportunity to extend his condolences to the people of Kano State over the recent passing of elder statesman and philanthropist, Alhaji Alhassan Aminu Dantata.
