KNSG donates N250m to Singer, Kurmi markets fire victims

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has announced an urgent donation of N200 million and N50 million to the victims of fire disaster at Singer and Kurmi Markets respectively.

The markets were recently gutted by fire which razed down many shops making the owners to lose items worth several millions of naira as well as other valuables unquantifiable.

The state commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, who disclosed this in a statement, said the release of the fund is aimed at providing an immediate succor to the affected traders, who lost their valuables to the fire.

He said the leadership of the traders’ associations in the market would be formally presented with the chaques of N250, 000, 000.00 million by the governor tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Government House, Kano.

Malam Garba said that the state government would also look into other ways of supporting the traders when the committee set up by the government to assess the fire incidents submitted its recommendations in the next five days.

The statement added that while further commiserating with the victims of the inferno, Governor Ganduje called on individuals and organisations to support the traders in every way possible.

He prayed to Allah in His infinite mercy prevent future occurrence of the fire disaster.
