From Alhaji Yusuf, Damaturu

The Yobe State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime. On July 31, 2025, a two-year-old boy, Abdulkareem Mohammed, was kidnapped in Potiskum.

His father, Mohammed Ishayaku, later received a ransom demand of N2 million.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said swift action by operatives led to the safe rescue of the child and the arrest of one suspect, Abdullahi Aliyu, 24, from Kakuri, Kaduna State.

According to the statement, the suspect was traced and apprehended in Kaduna after investigations linked him to similar kidnapping incidents in other states.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, commended the personnel for their dedication and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to relentlessly combat crime across the state.

He also urged parents to remain vigilant over their children and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

The Yobe State Police Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents.
