Market Traders Association of Nigeria, (MATAN), Kano state chapter, has expressed intention to offer a free intensive skills acquisition training for 100 widows of personnel of the Kano State Police Command who lost their lives in the line of duties.
Chairman of MATAN, Comrade Abba Aminu Imam made the declaration on Wednesday, when he led other executives of the association on a condolence visit to the state Police Command.
Comrade Imam revealed that the measure was part of the association’s initiatives towards ameliorating the challenges being faced by widows of the slain police operatives.
A statement issued by Media Aide of the association, Mustapha Isah Kwaru, revealed that, besides offering the training, MATAN has equally waved the registration fees into the association of 50 widows.
He added that, the association will equally assist the widows with relevant equipment and capital to enable them commence the businesses.
According to the statement, the gesture will equally assist the beneficiaries to be engaged in business activities and be self-reliance.
The chairman told the commissioner that the association has already evolved an effective roadmap for successful execution of the project.
“The association has already engaged experts on various skills acquisition programs comprising tailoring, soap and detergent making, baking, weaving, hair dressings, fish farming, poultry and agriculture, among others. Each of the beneficiaries will be trained on the area she chooses”, Comrade Abba declared.
The chairman who paid tributes to the fallen heroes, observed that their spouses should be supported not only their employer, saying active participation of individuals and corporate organizations will contribute immensely to the welfare of the families they left behind.
The chairman further solicited the support of the police in ensuring crime-free atmosphere for effective business activities in the state.
Responding, the state Police Commissioner, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, applauded MATAN for the gesture, describing it as exceptional and display of patriotism
The commissioner assured that the police command would not hesitate to unveil formidable and holistic approaches towards ensuring adequate security for the general progress of business activities in the state.
He described MATAN as major stakeholder for the sustenance of peace, security, maintenance of law and order.
According to him, the state Police Command will unmask solid partnership with market traders that could boost security in all strategic markets and other business locations
