Meta barred from sacking Facebook moderators in Kenya

A Kenyan court has issued a temporary order barring Meta, Facebook’s parent company, from carrying out its planned dismissal of content moderators until a lawsuit filed by 43 moderators is resolved.

The moderators, who were hired by Sama on behalf of Meta, have alleged that the redundancy exercise was illegal, and have been given varying and unclear explanations for their dismissal.

The court has also prevented Meta and Sama from hiring new moderators to replace the sacked ones.

The companies have been given a week to respond to the application, and the case is set to be heard on March 28th.

According to reports, at least 260 content moderators were set to lose their jobs.
