Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of Tesla Inc., has appointed Linda Yaccarino as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Twitter.
Recall that Musk on Thursday had disclosed he had found a successor for the position.
However in a tweet on Friday, the founder of Tesla revealed that, “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter.
“Linda Yaccarino will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design and new technology.
“Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app,” Musk tweeted.
With Yaccarino on board, Musk said he would act as the chief technology officer (CTO) and chairman.
Yaccarino, aged 60, is the chairperson of the advertising council’s board of directors, chairman of a World Economic Forum task force, and also a global chair of Ymu, a British talent-management group.
Prior to her appointment as Twitter’s CEO, Yaccarino was the advertising chief at NBC Universal, where she served for more than 12 years.
Yaccarino is expected to resume at Twitter in six weeks, officially making her the first female CEO in the history of the company.
The micro-blogging platform, since it was created, has been led by five men: Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Dick Costolo, Parag Agrawal, and Musk.
With Yaccarino’s hiring, Musk has belatedly fulfilled the promise he made to honor the results of a Twitter poll he posted in December where a total of 57.5 percent of more than 17 million accounts voted for him to step down as the CEO.
