Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has congratulated former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR, on his nomination as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the Governor said he was delighted by the appointment, which follows the resignation of the former Defence Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar. He expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for entrusting General Musa with what he described as a “noble and strategic national responsibility.”
Governor Mutfwang described General Musa as a gallant, courageous, and highly competent military officer whose sacrifices have contributed greatly to peace, unity, and national cohesion. He praised the former CDS for his doggedness and unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria during his distinguished military career.
According to the Governor, General Musa’s wealth of experience—ranging from his leadership roles in the Infantry Centre and Corps, to commanding operations in the North-East and Lake Chad region, and later serving as Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai—has prepared him optimally for the task ahead. He noted that General Musa’s career trajectory, capped by his appointment as Chief of Defence Staff in 2023, makes him “a round peg in a round hole” for the Defence Ministry.
Governor Mutfwang expressed strong confidence that the ministerial nominee will bring renewed vigour, clarity of purpose, and effective strategies to Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges. He called on Nigerians to support the new nominee in the collective quest for a safer and more secure nation.
On behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang extended heartfelt felicitations to General Musa and prayed for God’s guidance, wisdom, and strength as he prepares to assume this new national assignment.
