The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has raised alarm over misleading information circulating on social media platforms, cautioning the public against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment offers for volunteer nursing staff for the 2024 Hajj services.
In an official statement by Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director of Public Affairs at NAHCON clarified that it has not authorized any organization for the recruitment of volunteer nurses during the Hajj pilgrimage.
The Commission emphasized that only medical personnel directly engaged by NAHCON would be authorized to provide healthcare services during the Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The setting up of clinics is strictly regulated by Saudi Arabian authorities, and any unauthorized medical assistance runs the risk of arrest and persecution.
Furthermore, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Suleman Adam, the Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, disassociated himself from the purported recruitment offer.
NAHCON’s delegation, acting on instructions from Chairman Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, met with Dr. Suleman to seek clarification on the matter. The Sheikh affirmed their commitment to sharing only authentic information from NAHCON and called for collaboration between the Commission and Ulama to prevent misinformation.
NAHCON stressed that it communicates solely through official government channels, print and electronic media, and authorized social media handles: @nigeriahajjcom (Instagram, Facebook & Twitter) and the NAHCON Website at nahcon.gov.ng.
The public was urged to contact the Commission’s official access numbers for legitimate inquiries at 09071800007 & 08059456781 (Calls/Text/WhatsApp).
However, followers were advised to disregard any unverified information not originating from NAHCON’s official sources. Fatima emphasized the importance of relying on authorized channels to avoid falling prey to scams circulating on social media.
