The chairmanship aspirant of Nasarawa local government area, Hon. Muhammad MD Hassan, on Saturday has offered scholarships to 50 indigent students from the local government to study Public Health at various Colleges of Health Science and Technology.
MD said the scholarship scheme was inspired by the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is known for sponsoring less privileged people to acquire knowledge.
He also said the gesture was part of his effort to support the Kano state government’s commitment to improving the education sector.
“We offered this scholarship to help our people in Nasarawa local government and to support the Kano state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in its effort on transforming the education and health sectors.
“We specialized the scholarship to health education because of its importance to human life and we are moving to include other sectors,” he said.
MD urged the students to focus on their studies in order to achieve their goals, stressing that they were selected based on merit.
He also commended Kano state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for re-introducing the foreign scholarship scheme that was initiated by former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Aliyu Dalhatu Chiranchi, the senior special assistant to Kano state governor on health affairs, commended MD’s effort and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transforming the health sector in the state.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Hon. MD Hassan and promised to focus on their academic activities.
