NASUU Strike Paralyzes Dutse Varsity Activities

From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

The nationwide strike led by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASUU) has brought normal activities to a halt at the Federal University Dutse (FUD) as union members joined the seven-day warning strike.

The Union’s leadership has blocked all vehicular entrances to the University, permitting only students and academic staff to enter the premises.

Basic hostel services, power supply, library operations, and security sections have been shut down as staff members refrain from their duties.

Affected departments include registries, maintenance, security, and student affairs, all of which have withdrawn their services.

Addressing journalists, NASUU FUD chapter chairman, Comrade Alasan Abdullahi, stated that the strike was in compliance with directives from the national body of the Union, protesting unfair salary treatment and discrepancies by the Federal Government.

Expressing concern to our reporter, fourth-year physiology student Shema’u Gidado lamented the disruption of University activities, urging reconciliation between the government and NASUU for the sake of students’ futures.

“Actually I was not happy right from the gate when our driver couldn’t have access to enter the University as the entrance was blocked by the members of NASUU”

“Though we are resuming today from session break actually with this development lectures and other activities may not be held”

“So as a student and also Nigerian, I appealed to both federal government and NASUU to reconcile to save our future, Government should try to consider their needs” Gidado said.

Similarly, new student Easter Adebayo highlighted challenges faced in completing registration due to the strike, emphasizing the need for swift resolution to prevent further disruptions.
