NEDC Commissions 450-Seat Hall for GSS Damaturu Alumni

In a significant move to boost educational infrastructure and alumni activities, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commissioned and handed over a state-of-the-art, 450-seat multi-purpose hall to the Government Secondary School (GSS) Damaturu Old Students Association (DOSA).

The handover ceremony was a highlight of the 4th National Congress of DOSA, held at the Government Girls Unity College in Damaturu. The event, themed “Unity and Perseverance in the Face of Challenges,” brought together alumni, government officials, and school administrators to celebrate the new facility, which is set to serve as a vital hub for the school and the wider community.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, who was the guest speaker at the congress, elaborated on the commission’s vision.

“The NEDC’s vision is to develop the North East into a safe, economically vibrant, and ICT-driven region, creating jobs and promoting human capacity development. Our mission is to build infrastructure and institutions destroyed by insurgency, tackle poverty, illiteracy, and ecological problems,” Alkali stated.

He expressed confidence that the hall would be a valuable asset, noting, “I am confident that if the school manages this hall economically, it will generate revenue in many ways.”

Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya, the National President of DOSA, welcomed the guests and expressed his “great pleasure, joy, and a deep sense of fulfillment” at the gathering.

He emphasized that the congress was not merely a reunion but a platform to “reflect on our collective journey, assess our contributions, and chart a sustainable path for the future of our alma mater.”

In her remarks,the Principal, Government Girls Unity College, Damaturu, Hajiya Ladi Ishaku Gali, conveyed the school’s deepest gratitude.She highlighted the alumni’s “tireless efforts,” which included not only the new hall but also equipping an e-library and installing solar lights.

The new 450-seat congress hall for GSS Damaturu’s alumni stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between federal agencies, alumni associations, and educational institutions in driving community development and empowering future generations.
