The Adamawa State Coordinator of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Barrister Khalifa Muhammad Lawan said the Commission will deploy electric vehicles in Adamawa state to boost transportation services.
Barrister Lawan made the disclosure in Yola Wednesday during an interactive session with the stakeholders stressing that an health insurance scheme would also be introduced in the state soon with a view to improve health care delivery of the citizenry.
Lawan stated that the proposals are parts of the Commission’s mandate towards restoring livelihoods, rebuilding communities and the expansion drive on infrastructures for fostering development in the region.
Lawan, said the Commission is determined to ensure every household and community benefits from its interventions by partnering with all stakeholders, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He further explained that, Adamawa will benefit from e-buses, electric vehicles, and tricycles to drastically reduce transportation challenges as the Commission will engage transport workers and other stakeholders before fully activating the initiative.
According to him, a Health Insurance Scheme is also being introduced to provide free healthcare access for vulnerable communities at the grassroots highlighting that the proposed rollout of electric vehicles, approved by President Bola Tinubu, will include e-buses for intra-state movement, e-taxis capable of carrying three passengers, and modified solar-powered tricycles enhanced to carry up to eight passengers.
The Coordinator reiterated that the Commission remains committed to transforming Adamawa State and the wider North East through inclusive, people-centred development.
Our Correspondent reported that NEDC since its inception has conducted several interventions in the Six North Eastern states including Adamawa, Bauchi,Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe especially in construction and rehabilitation of infrastructures affected by Boko Haram insurgency.
