In his efforts to effectively police Kano state, the newly posted Commissioner of Police to Kano state, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel has revealed that the Force has mapped out strategies to focus on during the forthcoming Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly Elections and for the elections to thrive in a nonviolent and transparent manner.
CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel gave the hint while giving his assumption of duty speech to officers and Members of the Press at the Police Officers Mess, Bompai, Kano on Monday.
The Commissioner stressed that three major objectives were identified towards providing an enabling ground for INEC and the good people of Kano to conduct and have a free, fair, credible and transparent election.
According to the CP, “the first strategy put in place is that, the Inspector General of Police has deployed additional anti-riot personnel and additional state-of-the-earth crowd management equipment to augment the existing security architecture in the state to adequately secure the forthcoming election”
“Secondly, we have undertaken security threat analysis and upscale the level of preparation for the elections across all the polling units at the local government areas of the state and we are fully prepared to emplace the requisite strategies towards managing the identified threats”
“The third and perhaps most important is the productive outcome resulting from the follow-up interaction with the police, INEC leadership and the active partnerships of the membership of the State Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES)” the CP highlighted.
CP Gumel further asserted that the credibility of every election is determined not just by the legal framework regulating it but also by the extent of professionalism and operational competence displayed by the police.
He reassured the general public that the Police Command is committed to securing all law-abiding political actors, party faithful, and citizens at large during the elections.
The newly posted Commissioner also hoped that all stakeholders in the forthcoming elections in Kano State will cooperate with the Police Command to ensure that the election process is transparent, credible, and violence-free.
