The mass wedding of 100 grooms and their brides, sponsored by Zamfara State Governor Lawal Dauda Dare, has been widely praised as a positive step amidst the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
Nigerians interviewed on the development commended Governor Dare’s administration for this bold initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial during the current economic hardship.
The mass wedding, organized in collaboration with the Zamfara State Hisbah Board, was finalized on Wednesday, drawing widespread applause. Many noted that the gesture alleviated significant financial burdens on parents, guardians, and the newlyweds, given the current economic realities.
Commenting on the event, Alhaji Fahat Jakada Mubi congratulated the couples and their families on achieving this significant milestone. He encouraged them to remain patient, tolerant, and prayerful, emphasizing that such virtues would bring blessings to their union. Jakada Mubi also urged the couples to view their marriages as acts of worship ordained by God, advocating for faithfulness and sincerity to foster strong and fulfilling homes.
He further expressed gratitude to Governor Dare for the initiative, encouraging him to continue implementing people-oriented programs that benefit the state’s residents.
Another commentator, Shehu Abdullahi, described the mass wedding as a dream come true for many of the participants. He advised the couples to adhere to the principles and responsibilities of marriage, emphasizing the importance of preserving the sanctity of the union. Abdullahi also called on other state governors to emulate Governor Dare’s initiative to strengthen family values and societal stability.
Mass weddings were first introduced by former Kano State Governor Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso and have since been adopted by several northern states, our correspondent reports.
