The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Jigawa state has paraded three victims and a suspect involved in illegal human trafficking. The victims were intercepted at the Tsamiya Ilu checkpoint area of Daura.
Mr. Samson Agada, the Jigawa State Comptroller of NIS, emphasized that the command will take decisive measures against human traffickers engaged in smuggling young men and women to Europe. The State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking (NAPTIP), Mr. Abdulkarim Surajo, stated that a thorough investigation and prosecution of the trafficking suspects will be prioritized.
“The victims, one male and two females from Kogi state, were facilitated by their uncle residing in Kano to travel from Kogi to Libya through Niger Republic. Upon interception at the Tsamiya Ilu checkpoint and subsequent profiling, the victims confessed to their intended destination being Daura Local Government in Katsina state with plans to cross the border into Niger Republic,” he explained.
