North-East governors seek enhanced collaboration to boost regional security

The North-East Governors Forum (NEGF) has underscored the need for intensified collaboration among member states to strengthen the region’s security architecture.

This call to action was made on Saturday during the forum’s ninth meeting held in Yola, Adamawa State.

The governors pledged to work closely with security agencies to develop a comprehensive security roadmap for the region.

“Although the security situation in the region is improving,” acknowledged NEGF Chairman Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, “there is a need for more collaboration among member states in designing the security architecture of the region.”

In his welcome remarks, Governor Fintiri commended the NEGF for its role in championing the region’s development aspirations.

“Since its inception, the forum has charted a new course and attracted the needed attention of the region,” he stated.

The meeting, hosted by Adamawa State Governor Umaru Fintiri, brought together governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe) to discuss critical regional issues, including security and economic development.

Following a closed-door session, the forum issued a communique, presented by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, highlighting key resolutions.

In addition to the security focus, the communique announced plans for a trade fair to be hosted by Bauchi State and confirmed the venue and dates for the NEGF’s 10th meeting, scheduled for February 23-March 26, 2024, in Bauchi State
