The Nigeria Railway Corporation has finalized its preparations to initiate night operations in the second quarter of 2024.
The Managing Director of NRC, Fidet Okhiria, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday.
“The night operations are limiting us, and that is not how trains should operate. The train is designed to continue indefinitely. People may prefer to go in the evening, but due to the security situation in the country, we only travel during the day.
“We intend to bring back passenger and goods trains from Port-Harcourt to Aba, Lagos to Kano and Kaduna because of the dry ports,” he said.
According to the NRC DG, this merely means that the business will start running six rail excursions per day on the standard gauge train across the board.
“We are going to increase the number of train trips from Lagos to Ibadan, Warri to Itakpe, and Abuja to Kaduna to six, which means the trips will be three times to and three times fro, making six trips in a day.”
“The journeys will begin before the second quarter of 2024. They are currently conducting four trips—two up and two down across the board,” he said.
