NSNCM Backs Northern Governors’ Forum, ACF on Northern Power Crisis
From Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna
The Nineteen Seventeen Northern Consensus Movement (NSNCM) has expressed strong support for the recent stance taken by the Northern Governors Forum and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on addressing the ongoing power blackouts in northern Nigeria.
In a statement signed by NSNCM President Dr. Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, the movement endorsed the communique issued at the Northern Governors Forum meeting, held on October 28, 2024, with northern governors, traditional leaders, and Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, present.
The communique raised the urgent issue of power shortages, framing it as a threat to economic stability and security in the North.
NSNCM also backed the ACF’s call for a “State of Emergency” on power outages in the North, which cautioned that unequal electricity distribution threatens national security.
The movement applauded the Chief of Defence Staff’s commitment to securing transmission towers and emphasized the need for enhanced maintenance and monitoring by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to ensure stable power.
Dr. Aliyu suggested modernizing transmission tower security with GPS and thermal vision to allow for rapid response to issues, emphasizing NSNCM’s dedication to advocating for fair power distribution.
“The nation’s welfare is interconnected,” Aliyu stated, “and balanced development is essential for peace and progress.”
