The National Union of Banks, Insurance & Financial Institutions Employees has felicitated Director-General Due Process & Project Monitoring Gombe State, Babayola Muhammed-Isa, for his appointment by the United Nations International Peace Advocate.
Our correspondent reports that the recognition of Muhammed-Isa by the Positive Livelihood Award Centre, a United Nations-based organisation was in recognition of his contribution in peace building, commitment in service to humanity and dexterity
According to a felicitation letter, dated April 15 which was signed by Anthony Abakpa, National President, and Muhammed Ishiyaku Sheikh General Secretary of NUBIFIE, said the appointment was well deserved.
The letter partly read, “On behalf of the National Executive Council of our great Union, National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, and indeed the entire membership, we write to convey our collective felicitation, on your nomination for the UN-POLAC AWARD in recognition of your outstanding contribution towards human rights defence.
“The award is a testament of your commitment to human dignity as exemplified by the doggedness of your fight against unethical corporate practices perpetuated against female employees in the heydays of the new generation banks and insurance industry.
As National President of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, you gallantly fought against the inhuman “Easy Virtue” concept deployed as a tool by employers in the name of “target- setting” or “deposit drive”. The effort made the Senate Committee on Banking and Financial Institutions to investigate the indignities.
“The investigation by the Senate committee led to the Central Bank of Nigeria directing the Banker’s Committee to set up a sub- committee to address the concerns of the Union on what was then popularly referred to as “Corporate Prostitution, “in the banking industry.”
The NUBIFIE noted its delight to Muhammed-Isa’s exploits, while extending gratitude to the governor of Gombe State, adding “As a Union, we are delighted that the leadership you provided in the defence of worker’s dignity at a workplace has been recognized by this award. We therefore rejoice with you, His Excellency, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, the Executive Governor of Gombe State and, your lovely family on this occasion, as your legacy continues to resonate.”
