Our Mission Is to Inculcate a Reading Habit in the Minds of Younger Generations – Literary Society

From Salihu Muh’d Dagari, Damaturu

Recently, the Nguru Literary Society held a meeting with its patron, Alhaji Hamisu Ado, who also serves as the Education Secretary of Nguru Local Education Authority (LGEA) in Yobe State.

The gathering focused on key discussions about how best the society can contribute to shaping the minds and intellectual development of the younger generation.

The primary objective of the society is to instill discipline, expose young learners to various forms of literature, and encourage them to develop a strong reading culture. This includes engaging with both printed and digital literary works across different intellectual domains.

Additionally, the society aims to enhance students’ proficiency in both official and local languages, believing that broadening their vocabulary from an early stage—particularly in lower and upper basic education—will significantly improve their communication skills.

“We believe that this initiative will actively engage and prepare young minds, equipping them with the necessary social and intellectual skills to become responsible adults in the future,” stated Mallam Abubakar Mohammed, the Chairman of the Society, during the visit.

In response, the Patron of the Society, Alhaji Hamisu Ado, assured the delegation that his office would remain open to support initiatives that promote positive thinking and educational development.

He added, “Literary societies across the world are recognized as social institutions because they play a crucial role in character building. We believe you will continue to uphold this noble cause.”
