Kano State Primary Healthcare and Management Board, in collaboration with Makkah Specialist Eye Hospital, has successfully conducted a free mobile eye screening program for the residents of Gwarzo Local Government Area (LGA).
The initiative, aimed at improving eye health and providing essential eye care services to the community, witnessed an impressive turnout.
According to a report by Kamilu Saleh Dokadawa, the Kano State coordinator of Primary Eye Care, a total of 536 patients underwent screening during the program.
“Among the patients screened, 162 individuals were identified as requiring cataract surgery and were referred for further treatment. Additionally, 69 individuals were screened for glaucoma, and appropriate referrals were made for those needing further examination or treatment” Kamilu disclosed.
In a remarkable show of support, Makkah Specialist Eye Hospital generously donated 130 eye drops and 70 pairs of glasses to complement the eye care services provided to the people of Gwarzo LGA.
The beneficiaries of the screening program expressed their gratitude towards the Kano State government, particularly Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy, Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, for their valuable intervention.
Aminu Adnan and Ruqayyah Salihu, both residents of Gwarzo LGA, were among those who appreciated the government’s efforts in organizing the initiative.
