Some Governorship candidates in Kano State have alleged plans by “some unpatriotic politicians” to disrupt Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.
The governorship candidates include those of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),the African Democratic Congress(ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), People’s Redemption Party(PRP),Young People’s Party(YPP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP),the NRM and the Booth Party.
The candidates who spoke through the ADC governorship candidate in the state, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, raised the alarm at a crowded press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre, Kano,on Monday.
“Reports reaching us indicate that some unpatriotic politicians have engaged the services of armed thugs to disrupt the electoral process.
“There are also reports of moves to provide security agencies uniforms to political thugs during the March 11th governorship election,” they further alleged.
They, therefore, called on all relevant stakeholders, especially security agencies,State and National Peace Committees,Human Rights Organisations, International and Domestic Observers and the Media “to do the needful in addressing the unfortunate situation for peace and stability to prevail.”
They also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to mobilise election materials to polling units on time to enable the process commence appropriately.
The governorship candidates said this was necessary as there were allegations of plans to delay the process, especially in Kano Central.
Also in attendance at the press conference were the ADP governorship candidate in the state,Sha’aban Sharada, and his PDP counterpart,Sadiq Aminu Wali, among others.
