PDP Yobe Chapter Alleges Irregularities in Congresses, Seeks National Intervention

From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

The Yobe State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over alleged irregularities in its recent congresses, calling on the national leadership to intervene.

At a press briefing in Damaturu, the PDP’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Ahmed Warizi, alongside local government chairmen and state working committee members, expressed dismay over what they described as a lack of transparency and inclusivity in the congresses conducted across Yobe’s 17 LGAs.

Warizi emphasized the supremacy of the party’s constitution, stating it mandates the full involvement of all card-carrying members in party activities. He stressed that, given Yobe is home to the acting national chairman, the state should serve as a model for internal democracy.

Abdullahi Shuaibu, PDP Chairman of Potiskum and ALGON Chair for the 17 LGAs, also criticized the process, claiming they were not informed or involved in congresses held on May 8 and 13. He urged the national secretariat to probe the matter and correct the alleged flaws.

Responding to the claims, outgoing chairman Amb. Umar El-Gash maintained that due notice was given via official party platforms and advised aggrieved members to seek redress through proper channels.

The controversy has sparked concerns over the PDP’s unity in Yobe as the 2027 general elections approach, with party stakeholders warning that adherence to due process is key to electoral success.
