Hassan emerges Chairman of Plateau PDP

Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), now has a new chairman to pilot the affairs of the party ahead of the forthcoming Local Government Areas elections in the state.

The former Commissioner for Works as well as Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Plateau state, Chris Hassan has been declared the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The Chairman of the electoral panel, Olusola Akanmode who announced the results on Monday evening after a state party congress which started in Jos on Saturday said Hassan defeated former Member representing Jos South/Jos East federal constituency in the National Assembly, Bitrus Kaze and Monica Gwom to clinch the seat.

It could be recall that Hassan had earlier won the state chairmanship position conducted in August 2020 but a leadership crisis which trailed his election forced the National Working Committee of the PDP to dissolve the state exco in June, 2021 and appointed the Senator Tunde Ogbeha led caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party .

It also mandated the committee to conduct elections for the emergence of the substantive state party executive within 90 days with effect from Thursday, June10, 2021.

While announcing the results, Akanmode said “We came in from Abuja with accreditation list and at the end of the day ,1819 delegates were accredited. For the position of chairman, Chris Hassan scored 1526 votes ;Bitrus Kaze scored 186 votes and Monica Gwom scored 8 votes.

Having scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Chris Hassan as the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in plateau state”

According to Akanmode , some of those who also emerged victorious during the poll included Capt.Bitrus Golen,Deputy Chairman; Emmanuel Tuang, State Secretary; Jamtur Binchen, State Legal Adviser; Yakubu Chocho, State Organizing Secretary; John Akans ,State Publicity Secretary; Daniel Azi ,State Financial Secretary and Angela Shinkur, State Internal Auditor.

Others were Davou Mang, Vice Chairman ,Plateau North; Jeremiah Satmak, Vice Chairman Plateau Central; Simon Domle ,Vice Chairman ,Plateau South; Jonathan Pwajok, State Assistant Organizing Secretary North;Martina Dakur ,State Women Leader;Christy Nyam, State Assistant Women Leader Plateau North; Pankshak Dakyen, State Assistant Legal Adviser among others

All the elected party exco were immediately sworn in.

The new chairman, Hassan who spoke on behalf of the elected officials promised to unite the party and work hard to reclaim the governorship seat in the state which is being occupied by the All Progressives Congress.

On his part, Hon Bitrus Kaze, who accepted defeat in good faith assured the party of his loyalty and willing to support in the struggle for unity and reconciliation of PDP.

He however thank delegates for their confidence in him and also commended the Sen. Tunde Ogbeha’s led committee for a successful election.
