Police arrest cyber crime suspects, 5 kidnappers, others in Kano

Kano State Police command on Friday paraded ninety five suspects of various offences, including two of cyber crime, popularly known as ‘yahoo-yahoo’ in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Iliyasu Ahmad, while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters, revealed that the two cyber crime suspects were nabbed at Gwammaja quarters in the Kano metropolis.
According to him, on August 29, at about 2pm, Operatives attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad of Operation Puff-Adder, while on surveillance patrol at Gwammaja Qtrs Kano, arrested one Hassan Idris and Abdulrazaq Ahmed all of the same address.
He said the duo were arrested following a tip off in connection to cyber crime, adding that they confessed to committing the crime.
The CP also disclosed that 4 computer Laptops, 3 printers, some fake statement of results of Kano State Polytechnic, School of Hygiene and some numbers of fake NECO results, Fake driver licence, fake tinted permit, fake Nigeria Army ID card and fake voters cards were recovered from them.
He explained that the suspects specialize in hacking of peoples Bank Accounts and ATMs, adding that the case under investigation.
Mr Ahmad also disclosed that on August 21 received a complaint on threat to kidnap through text messages.
He added that on receiving the complaint, Anti-Kidnapping squad of Operation Puff-Adder Kano, immediately swung into action, trailed, tracked and arrested one Sagir Iliya, 55years old, Rabiu Adamu, also known as Sadau, 30years old, Mukhtar Sani, 35 years old, all of Zangon Dan Audu Village, Rimin Gado LGA, Kano State.
“Suspects confessed to have conspired and sent messages threatening to Kidnap one Sani Yahaya ‘m’ of Yelwa Goron Dutse quarters with his wife. A Tecno mobile Handset and an MTN Sim card that was used in sending the horrifying, intimidating and threatening messages were recovered from them. Suspects will soon be charged to court after investigation,” Mr Iliyasu said
The CP further revealed that on the same day,  a letter of complaint was received from one Ibrahim Muhammad of Sani Mainagge Quarters, Gwale Local Governmebt Area in Kano, that an SMS text message was sent to him, threatening to kidnap his son.
“on receiving the complaint, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad were immediately drafted and swung into action. One Hamisu Abdullahi alias Baban Gandu aged 37 years and Yusuf Abubakar Alias Alhaji Gana, aged 48 years old were arrested.
“Suspects confessed to have conspired and extorted the sum One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira (120,000.00) from the complainant. A ZAIN Sim Card that was used in sending the intimidating messages was recovered from the suspects. Suspects will soon be charged to court for prosecution,” he said
The CP also stated that over 61 thugs and robbery suspects were nabbed by the command at various places in the state with different type of assorted and local weapons.
He added that various exhibits, ranging from weapons, dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, codeine syrup, laptops, money, solar batteries and panels, among others have Ben recovered by the command.
“The Puff Adder Operation that has been achieving the desired results will be sustained as earlier stated.
 “All non-repentant criminals will have no hiding place and are strongly advised to leave completely, otherwise they will be arrested and face the full wrath of the law. This is to assure a lasting peace and unity in the state.
“The command is further using this means to appreciate the good people of the state and law abiding members of the public for their prayers and cooperation in enthroning a peaceful and a stable Kano State,” he said
