Police Crack Down on Theft Syndicate in Damaturu

The Yobe State Police Command has intensified efforts to curb crime in Damaturu, leading to the arrest of a theft syndicate suspected of involvement in multiple cases of shoplifting, theft, criminal trespass, and burglary.

Acting on instructions from the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, officers conducted a targeted stakeout to apprehend the culprits responsible for recent property crimes affecting both public and private spaces in the area.

On November 10, 2024, the police received a distress call from Malam Musa Alh Audu of Nayi-Nawa ward, reporting the theft of six tricycle tires and five windshields from tricycles parked nearby.

The items were stolen in the early morning hours of the previous day. In response, officers from the ‘A’ Divisional Police Station promptly mobilized, leading to the arrest of six suspects linked to the crime.

The apprehended individuals, ranging in age from 19 to 52 and residing in various wards across Damaturu, were found in possession of stolen property, including 13 tricycle tires, six windshields, four crates of empty Coca-Cola bottles, two bicycles, and a toolbox.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the theft and are currently cooperating with the police in their ongoing investigation.

Commissioner Garba Ahmed praised the vigilance and cooperation of Yobe residents in supporting the fight against crime.

He encouraged the community to continue reporting suspicious activities and providing valuable information to law enforcement to help maintain security across the state.
