As part of efforts to reduce poverty among women, the Baba Azimi Foundation (BAF), with support from ActionAid, has trained community women peer groups on Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) in Jigawa State.
Speaking to journalists, ActionAid’s Programme Manager for Partnership and Local Rights, Kehinde Arowosegbe, said the training aims to boost the capacity of women to become self-reliant.
He stated that participants were selected from Aigwan Iro, Diwigi, Rakwata Sale, and Ado communities in the Miga, Gwiwa, and Kaugama local government areas of the state.
Kehinde added that the participants were equipped with skills and knowledge on how to save small contributions and support one another to become self-dependent or execute community projects for their benefit.
The programme manager urged the participants to mobilize other women in their communities and share the training to help eradicate poverty and promote development.
In her remarks on behalf of the participants, Aisha Haruna from Kaugama Local Government commended the Baba Azimi Foundation and ActionAid for organizing the training. She added that they would do their best to ensure that the desired goals are achieved.
