The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended 11 additional suspects believed to be involved in looting and vandalizing activities in Kano. This follows credible intelligence from the NSCDC’s intelligence and investigation department regarding miscreants allegedly vandalizing and looting facilities at the soon-to-be-commissioned Digital Industrial Park, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).
According to a statement on Friday by SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, CDPRO Kano Command, seven suspects were arrested in possession of various items including computer desktop sets, keyboards, LCD TVs, executive chairs, doors, window frames, and drawers. The arrests were carried out by the Anti Vandalism, Armed Squad, and Operations Department of the Corps.
The suspects reportedly vandalized and stole the items amidst recent protests and concealed them within the Audu Bako Secretariat complex beside the Kano Line Motor Park. They were apprehended while retrieving the stolen goods.
“In a related development, four suspected criminals were captured while transporting looted goods from the state road dual carriageway iron demarcating shields to an unknown destination.
“Furthermore, NSCDC operatives on patrol duty successfully recovered a 50KVA Mikano generator from hoodlums in Dorayi. The generator, which supplied electricity to streetlights at Dorayi quarters in Gwale LGA, was abandoned by the vandals when they sighted NSCDC personnel”.
The NSCDC has launched an investigation to pursue legal actions against the offenders.
The statement stated that “under the leadership of Commandant Mohammed Lawal Falala, the NSCDC Kano command is intensifying efforts to protect critical national assets and public utilities in the state. The command warns criminals to desist from vandalizing public infrastructure”.
