The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Kano, has announced its decision to join the Total and Indefinite Consolidated Strike (TICS 2.0) nationwide, starting at 12:00 midnight on Monday, 12th January 2026.
In a statement signed by Dr. Bello Aminu Bello, President of ARD AKTH, the doctors said the decision follows prolonged discussions and repeated unfulfilled assurances from authorities regarding critical welfare, training, and remuneration issues affecting resident doctors across Nigeria. The strike aligns with directives from the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
The doctors’ demands include the immediate reinstatement of the FTH Lokoja Five, payment of all outstanding promotion and salary arrears, full implementation of professional and specialist allowances, resolution of House Officers’ salary delays, and clarification on entry-level placement issues by the Federal Ministry of Health. They also called for the re-categorization and issuance of membership certificates post-Part I examinations, and the resumption of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) processes.
ARD AKTH warned that continued neglect of these issues threatens healthcare delivery, staff morale, and patient safety. While the association remains open to genuine and time-bound negotiations, it said the strike will continue until meaningful progress is achieved.
