Honorable Yusuf Idris Amoke, the Special Adviser on Climate Change to the Executive Governor of Kaduna state, underscores the importance of educating students on global warming and methods to mitigate environmental degradation.
He stresses the pivotal role of climate education in raising awareness among students about coexisting with plants and animals in their environment.
Additionally, he advocates for the presence of trees in all schools to combat erosion and environmental degradation, calling for the establishment of Green Clubs in schools across the 23 local governments in the state.
Honorable Yusuf Idris Amoke emphasizes that geography studies empower students to learn various ways to protect their environment, asserting that geography teaching is at its best when it equips young people with skills for an increasingly globalized economy.
Amoke suggests several ways to spread awareness about climate change, including sharing news on social media, citing scientific research, providing real-life examples, discussing global solutions, and encouraging personal actions to fight climate change.
To further drive awareness, he proposes hanging up awareness posters and creating art related to climate change to sensitize students through drawing.
In response, Mallam Nurudden Bello, the Director of Womanhood College of Health Science and Technology in Kaduna, emphasizes the significance of educating school students on effective ways to combat issues related to climate change and environmental degradation through awareness.
He expresses delight over the visit by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Climate Change to the school, where hundreds of students were sensitized about climate change.
According to him, climate change poses a threat to the existence of humans, animals, and other living organisms.
“These sentiments were echoed during the Awareness Week at the school, where the Department of Environmental Science and Dentistry invited the Kaduna State Government’s Special Assistant on Climate Change, Honorable Yusuf Idris Amoke” he said.
Nurudden Bello points out that the entire country is experiencing extreme heat due to climate change, emphasizing the need to engage students in learning various ways to protect their environment and ecosystem.
