Secondary Schools Academic Staff Union Honours Gov Ganduje With Award of Excellence

Appreciating governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s meticulous efforts and genuine political will towards the development of education, particularly secondary school education, the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, Kano State Branch, honoured the governor with Award of Excellence.

Presenting the Award to the governor during State Executive Council Meeting, held at Africa House, Government House, Kano, Wednesday, the state Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sunusi Sa’idu Kiru, highlighted some key areas identified by the union before reaching that conclusion.

This is contained in a statement signed by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kano State on Thursday.

The Award was given to the governor, when the union held their meeting at Murtala Muhammad Library and the governor was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Kiru.

Amid jubilation during the presentation of the Award to the governor, Commissioner Kiru pointed out that, “Your Excellency, the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools appreciated your untiring support and commitment in the education sector. As obtained in other sectors.”

They commended the governor, according to the Commissioner, for “Prompt payment of monthly salary, regular promotion of its members, training and retraining of teachers, Introduction of mass teacher housing scheme, and deployment of over 5,700 civil servants with teaching qualifications back to classrooms to teach.”

Others are, “Creation of additional Zonal Directorates and establishment of new ones across the Agencies under the state Ministry of Education. Procurement and distribution f text books to schools, among many others.”

In his response governor Ganduje assured that education would continue to prosper under his regime, emphasising that, “It is because of the importance we attach to education, that we allocate significant percentage of our budgets to the sector, year in year out.”

He called on all stakeholders to always understand the importance of putting heads together for the overall development of the sector.
