The Nafisatu College of Nursing Sciences,Kwankwaso,Kano State,is to be upgraded to a Medical University, to be known as Nafisatu Medical University, the proprietor of the institution,Sen.Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has said.
Sen.Kwankwaso announced the initiative on Tuesday,in an address at the college’s premises at Kwankwaso town in Madobi Local Government Area,as part of activities marking his 69th birthday anniversary.
He appealed to the people of the host community and other stakeholders to give their maximum support for the success of the project.
“I therefore appeal to all those concerned to give us the support we require to succeed, because our success is not the success of this town,or the local government or the state.A university is an institution that is national and international,” he said.
The leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement worldwide, expressed delight at the progress being recorded at the Nafisatu College of Nursing Sciences, pointing out that the school which was established in 2019, had so far graduated more than 400 students.
“We are all aware that this institution is the second not only in this part of the country but across the country, the first privately owned nursing sciences college here in this country.
“And we are so happy that the results we are getting over the years are excellent. So, I congratulate the staff of this institution. Let me at this point thank the state government for sponsoring some of the community midwives.
“And the idea of community midwives is to train them, give them the required certificate to operate in their communities and other communities especially here in Kano State,” the NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the college’s Governing Council,Prof. Saleh Ngaski Garba, disclosed that the school
took off with two programmes; basic nursing and basic midwifery and that within few years, it had added three other programmes, namely Post-basic Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, Community nursing and community midwifery programmes.
Garba said the institution is the first Private College of Nursing to introduce Post-basic Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing programme in the country, adding that Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso had been expanding the facilities in the College with the aim of upgrading and introducing more programmes.
“This will give more youths and the less privileged the opportunity to acquire training in more nursing subspecialties,”he added.
