Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for approving N2.5bn to revive the Kafin-Chiri irrigation scheme.
Senator Sumaila in a statement circulated to newsmen in Kano on Friday, said the scheme would significantly contribute to the enhancement of agricultural productivity in the state.
“The extension of the Kano irrigation scheme around Garko-Sumaila axis is a pivotal initiative that will create over 500 direct and indirect job opportunities, thereby uplifting livelihoods and promoting economic growth.
“The project’s dedication to bolstering food production in Kano State deserves praise as it underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and prosperity for its citizens.
“I am therefore encouraging farmers in the region to seize this opportunity and leverage the reactivated irrigation scheme to increase their agricultural output.
“I urge the farming community to collaborate with the authorities, embrace modern farming techniques, and capitalize on this generous gesture by the government,” Sumaila said.
The lawmaker added that by working hand-in- hand with the government, farmers in the area can maximize the benefits of the reactivated irrigation scheme to propel Kano State to greater agricultural self-sufficiency and prosperity.
“The people of the area should join hands in celebrating this landmark initiative and strive towards a future of abundant harvests and economic prosperity,” the statement added.
