Stakeholders decries low participation of women, PWDs in Politics urges for GESI

The stakeholders in Jigawa brainstorm on the challenges hindered women, People’s with Disabilities and other marginalised groups from participating in politics and other political issues.

The stakeholders also urged for the full implementation Electoral Accountability, Gender Equity and Social Inclusion in Nigeria for better women participation in politics.

The calls was made during the stakeholders meeting on electoral accountability, Gender equity and Social Inclusion in Nigeria, organised by Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) in collaboration with Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) supported by MacArthur foundation held at state Library Dutse.

Speaking during the meeting, the head of election and governance project at CITAD, comrade Ali Sabo said, the meeting highlited the importance of Inclusivity in Nigerian politics where relevant stakeholders like Women groups, Government officials, INEC body among others.

“The meeting converge relevant stakeholders like, Political parties, women groups, INEC officials, Government officials to discussed on how to promote and strengthen electoral accountability and gender Inclusiveness”, Sabo said.

After the discussion, participants adopted some action points that include, intensifying awareness and enlightenment campaign to grassroot women, high level advocacies and other measures.
