Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have neutralised two terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Source told Zagazola Makama on Tuesday that the operation was part of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, launched by 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS on Sept. 1 to flush out terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements from Taraba and its environs.
According to the sources, the latest encounter occurred on Sept. 15 and 16, following credible intelligence of a planned attack on Chanchanji community by elements suspected to belong to the Bojo group.
The sources said troops swiftly deployed and laid an ambush along Demeva–Chanchanji road, where they made contact with the terrorists at about 11:50 p.m.
“The troops engaged them in a firefight, neutralising one terrorist and recovering one G3 rifle, a magazine containing 16 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and one motorcycle.
“Others escaped into the thick forest with gunshot wounds, but troops could not pursue further due to poor visibility and the dense terrain,” one of the sources said.
Zagazola also learnt that earlier on Monday, troops engaged another group of terrorists along the Demeva–Chanchanji axis, killing one of them while others fled.
