Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has lifted the ban on riding motorbikes in seven (7) Local Government Areas of Zone (A) in the state.
The Local Government Areas are Bursari, Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani, Tarmuwa and Yunusari respectively.
This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Affairs.
Gen. Dahiru listed conditions to be adhered to as the ban is lifted.
According to him “Motorbikes are to operate between 6 am and 6 pm daily”
“Motorbikes are not to be used for commercial purposes ‘Achaba’”
“There will be no conveyance of passengers on motorbikes. Only a rider will be allowed without any other person on the motorbike”
“There should be proper registration, licensing, and documentation of all motorbikes and riders in the affected LGAs by the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) and the Yobe State Vehicle Licensing Authority,” he said.
Others are “All Motorbikes are to operate within their respective LGAs only”
“Any motorbike rider(s) that conveys passenger(s) would be sanctioned in accordance with extant rules and regulations”
“There would be no inter-local government area movement with motorbikes. Anyone found violating this condition would be appropriately sanctioned”
“All security agencies are requested to monitor and ensure strict compliance with these directives” Gen. Dahiru noted.
