12 Die in Yobe Road Traffic Crash, FRSC Confirms

A tragic road crash claimed 12 lives, including 10 male adults, one female adult, and one female child, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, along the Baimari-Geidam road in Yobe State.
The Yobe State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, confirmed the incident in a press release.
He disclosed that the crash occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. at Km 20, Chelluri village, when a Sharan mini bus with registration number BAU 124 YF collided with a stationary Howo truck, registered as MAG 831 ZR, owned by Dan Nene Construction Company.
The impact caused the bus to burst into flames, burning all 12 occupants beyond recognition.
Preliminary investigations by the FRSC revealed that the immediate cause of the crash was road obstruction caused by the stationary truck, while excessive speed and overloading by the bus driver were identified as contributing factors.
Commander Yilzoom warned motorists against traveling at night, citing poor visibility compounded by the current hazy harmattan weather as a significant risk factor.
He urged road users to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
On behalf of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, the sector commander extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them of the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safer roads across the country.
