147 Nigerian Returnees Arrive Kano from Agadez, Niger Republic under IOM-Federal Government Initiative

As part of the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) initiative supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Kano Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), and other key stakeholders successfully received 147 Nigerian returnees from Agadez, Niger Republic, on Monday, 27th October, 2025, at approximately 12:50 hours.

The returnees arrived safely at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, where they were received by officials from NEMA, IOM, NCFRMI, and partner agencies.

Upon arrival, personnel from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) promptly conducted biometric registration and documentation for all the returnees to ensure accurate records and smooth reintegration into the country. After registration, they were transported to the Nigeria Immigration Training School, Kano, for accommodation and further profiling on 28th October, 2025.

Demographic Breakdown:

  • 146 Male Adults
  • 1 Male Child
  • Total: 147 Returnees

In line with the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified, and humane return of its citizens, the returnees were provided with essential services and immediate humanitarian assistance, including:

  • Provision of food and potable water to meet immediate needs.
  • Medical care and ambulance services for health-related concerns.
  • Luggage handling and logistics support to ease their transition.
  • Coordination to ensure a seamless and orderly reception exercise.

The collaborative efforts of NEMA, IOM, NCFRMI, and other critical stakeholders ensured that the entire process was well-coordinated, efficient, and centered on the welfare and dignity of all returnees.
