2025 Appropriation Bill: Education, Healthcare, Key Sectors Receive Priority in Yobe
In Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving education, healthcare, and other essential sectors with the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
Education remains at the forefront, with the Governor declaring a state of emergency in the sector to lay a strong foundation for future generations.
Governor Buni emphasized that education is crucial for the socio-economic development of any society or nation.
This declaration dates back to Governor Buni’s inaugural address in his first term at Government House, Damaturu, where he stated: “I hereby declare a state of emergency on primary and secondary education. This will enable the State Government to build a strong base for the advancement of education in Yobe.”
Yobe State’s education system has expanded rapidly over the years. However, these changes have come with challenges, including inconsistent policies and insufficient strategic planning, which have hindered educational development in the state.
Governor Buni’s administration aims to address these issues by implementing sustainable reforms and strategic planning.
Analysts note that Nigeria’s National Policy on Education, established in 1977 and revised in 2014, promotes both formal and non-formal education to meet the needs of all citizens.
The formal system follows a “6-3-3-4” structure: six years of primary, two phases of three years in secondary, and four years of tertiary education.
Non-formal education programs are also available for non-literate adults and out-of-school youth, ensuring access to basic education regardless of socio-economic background or physical condition.
Governor Buni recently presented the 2025 budget proposal of N320.8 billion to the Yobe State Assembly, allocating N176.9 billion (55.1%) to capital expenditure and N144 billion (44.9%) to recurrent expenditure.
Education, healthcare, infrastructure, and women and youth empowerment are prioritized in the budget to foster sustainable growth and development across the state.
